Distortion by Kat Tobin

About this book:
Being a single dad is hard enough without temptation living next door.

After my wife died, I was broken. My daughter, Ava, was taken by social services and I had nothing left to live for. But I’ve fought my way back into the world and I’ve got a second chance with Ava.

When Ava befriends my gorgeous next-door neighbor, Charlotte, something changes. Charlotte’s a painter, and everything she touches seems to turn into art. Ava wants to get closer, to learn how to paint from her. And she takes me along for the ride.

Charlotte’s peachy lips and warm, sparkling eyes stir desires in me that I thought had died along with my wife. But it seems like my body’s betraying me, aching for Charlotte when I’m not sure I’ll ever be over my first love.

If I fall for Charlotte, how can I live with myself? But if I don’t give in to my longing, how can I ever move past my grief?

This is book 3 of the Avowed series - about 3 rockstar brothers.  This book can be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading the previous 2 books in the series.

This is the story of the eldest brother, Jack. In the previous books, we know that Jack lost his wife in a car accident & that his grief lead him into seclusion for a few years before reuniting with his band/brothers, the Avowed & his daughter (don't worry, this is all discussed in detail in the first few chapters of this book).

In “Distortion”, Jack is finally trying to get his life back on track and trying to be a good father to his daughter. His grief is all encompassing until he meets Charlotte, an artist and former kindergarten teacher.

This book is written in alternating POVs, which really helps us to see how Jack moves from his grief into letting another woman into his life & his heart while we watch Charlotte develop feelings for this man struggling to love again. The characters are well developed, but I had a little trouble getting into the book. I just couldn’t see the chemistry between Jack & Charlotte in the beginning. After about halfway through, I enjoyed watching how their relationship evolved as well as how Ava’s relationship with her father strengthened.  I am saddened that this series is over and I am looking forward to reading more books by Kat Tobin.

I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
