Friday Book Round Up

Happy Friday!  I hope that you all had a lovely week.  In addition to my Friday Round Ups, I am going to have a weekly post that features books that are for free or for on-sale at $0.99 as we all know how expensive a book addition can get!  Right now I am aiming for Wednesday, but that may change so be sure to check back.

This was a great week for reading!  There were many new releases this week by some amazing authors which I will highlight below and I also enjoyed every book that I read this week - all with 4 or more stars.

Sports, Romantic Comedy

4 stars I managed to snag an ARC of Mimi Jean Pamfiloff's Battle of the Bulge, which is book 4 in her OhHellNo! series.  This standalone romantic comedy had me laughing so hard. The heroine is a bodyguard which I thought was pretty hard core and awesome.  Mimi Jean has this ability to create quirky characters with entertaining storylines and I was impressed with the number of ways she had the heroine refer to male genitalia.

From New York Times Bestseller Mimi Jean Pamfiloff comes BATTLE OF THE BULGE, Book Four of the OHellNO Series. (A Standalone.)

“Chicks can’t be bodyguards. Especially hot chicks.”
MY NAME IS MITCH HOFER. I’m a world-famous swimmer from Australia, best known for three things: my gold medals, my looks, and filling out a swimsuit with my…eh-hem—bulky equipment. Let’s just say there’s a reason my nickname is “the Bulge.”
But beyond the fame, sponsors, and glory, there’s more to me than people know, including one hell of a mess I’ve gotten mixed up in. Life-or-death stuff, so bring in the professionals. Just don’t give me a chick bodyguard. Especially a young hot one who distracts me at every turn and hates my guts…
MY NAME IS ABI CARTER, and I hate Mitch Hofer. Yeah, he might be the sexiest champion swimmer in the world, but I’d give this guy a gold medal for being a first-class jerk.
Unfortunately, my boss has given me a choice—guard Mitch or get another job. And I really need the money. I can be professional, but if Mitch says “chicks can’t be bodyguards” one more time, I just might strangle him myself.
Still, something about the way Mitch keeps looking at me makes me think there’s more to his story. It’s almost as if he’s trying to drive me away. But why?
*can be read as a standalone*

Dark Romance

4.5 stars Let's just take a moment to drool over this cover. Okay, now that you've paid homage to the gloriousness of his abs, I will tell you that this was my first book by Eva Charles and this author has truly won me over.  I loved the characters in this enemies-to-lovers / second chance romance. There is a bit of suspense and a lot of sex scenes.  Be forewarned that some of the sex scenes have BDSM elements.  Depraved is the first book in a duet and I am not sure I can gracefully handle the wait for the second book.

Releases: February 21, 2019

I'm the devil's spawn.
The son of evil incarnate.
The heir to corruption and depravity.

Gabrielle Duval once belonged to me. And whether she likes it or not, she's destined to be mine again. What will it take to lure this luscious woman back into my bed? A deal with the devil himself, of course.

My name is JD Wilder, and this is the story of how I reclaim what's mine.

Contemporary Romance

4.5 stars  For those of you who loved Dylan Allen's The Legacy, you will love this book as The Legend (Book 2 in Rivers Wilde series) is Remi's story.  This is an emotional, beautifully written second chance romance that puts your through all the feels.  Be prepared for heartbreak, joy, lies, regrets, and shocking revelations.

Releases: February 25, 2019

Contemporary Romance

4.5 stars Alice's Wish is book 3 in Kay Harris' Wish series and it can be read as a standalone.  I really enjoyed this book and it may be my favorite in this series.  I adored Darius.  He is the perfect boyfriend.  The book has humor and romance, but the author also respectfully incorporates some sensitive subject matter.

Alice wants to leave the past behind her, but when it shows up in the form of an irresistible ex-football player turned underwear model, she has no choice but to revisit it.

Being bullied by her high school boyfriend was a turning point for Alice Bando. She left the tiny town of Walker Springs for the bustling Bay Area and embraced the sexual identity that had led to nothing but pain as a teenager. But when the kind hero from that fateful night turns up at her job all the way across the country from their hometown, she has no choice but to confront her past.

Darius Fleck has had a thing for Alice since she dated his little brother over six years before. Now that they're working together, he has a new chance to convince Alice he was the right one for her all along.

Climbing over the past to create a new future won't be easy. But Alice and Darius just might be up for the challenge.

*This is both a romance story and a personal journey. The heroine identifies as bisexual. There are scenes of bullying that may be a trigger for some readers.*

5 stars  I don't have my official review up yet on GR or my blog post, but I am currently re-reading Dana Marton's Accidental Sorceress.  Last month, 3rd and final book in the Hardstorm Saga, Guardian Queen, was released.  Seeing as it had been a few years between releases, I decided that I needed a little refresher.  It is such a great book and I jus know Guardian Queen will be amazing.

Tera, a powerful healer, travels with her beloved warrior, the High Lord Batumar, on a secret mission to forge alliances to stop the bloodthirsty Emperor Drakhar. Surviving vicious pirates, slave traders, and an ancient enemy of dark power is only the beginning. The journey brings Tera unimaginable hardships and loss, testing her spirit and heart as she gathers her own allies and fulfills her destiny. Adding a tiger and a wraith as companions on her journey, Tera struggles to survive with her wits and healing skills while protecting her light from the dark power that seeks to claim her.
