Friday Book Round-Up

I know that I have missed the Friday Round-Up over the past couple weeks and I apologize for that.  I traveled alone. . . with my rambunctious daughter who has special needs (it all went smoothly!) to St. Louis, Missouri to visit my family so I didn't have much time for reading or blogging.  It was a great to see everyone! I've included the books that I read last week (which weren't many) and this week.

Ellie was super excited to get on an airplane.  She kept asking for Baba and Papa

Dark NA-College Romance
😈😈😈😈
The Elite Seven

The Elite Seven is a series of interconnecting dark college romances about a secret society where not everything is as it seems.  Each book is written by a different author.  Other than Amo Jones (Greed), I have never read any of these authors' works before.  So far I've read the first 3 books and I am hooked!  Note: these books are relatively short.  I was able to read them in about 1.5 -2 hours.

Second Chance Romance
Ache by S.M. Soto

5 stars I am not often at a loss for words, but this book.  Just wow. I didn't think anything would make me feel the way Siobhan Davis' Inseparable, but I was wrong.  This book is not like S.M. Soto's other books.  She is very nervous about this release because she knows it is not for everyone, but it is indeed a story that needs to be told.  Ache is a very beautiful, but emotionally heartbreaking book.  I can't even explain it, but it is a so well written and I found myself crying, but also experiencing hope.  Don't worry, there is a HEA.

Paranormal Romantic Suspense
Alpha's Promise by Rebecca Zanetti
Series: Dark Protectors (#10)

3.5 Stars I know that many people who have received an ARC of this book already disagree with my star rating.  I love Rebecca Zanetti.  Her Dark Protector's series is one of my absolute favorite series of all time and y'all know how much I read. I love the interconnecting storylines in this series and I really liked Ivar and his story in Alpha's Promise.  In fact, I loved the secondary characters as well.  However, I struggled with Promise, the heroine.  I just could not connect to her at all.  I enjoyed the book, but it isn't my favorite.

Synopsis:
To hell and back . . .
Though he has vampire, demon, and Viking blood rushing through his veins, Ivar Kjeidsen’s soul-crushing trip to hell broke him in ways he can barely fathom.  One vow keeps the deadly immortal standing: To rescue the vampire brother who had sacrificed freedom for him.  To do that, Ivar needs the help of a brilliant physicist with wary brown eyes, fierce brilliance, and skin that's way too soft.

Dr. Promise Williams understands the underpinnings of the universe but has never figured out the human beings inhabiting it.   Her function is to think—and not feel—until she’s touched by a vampire who’s nowhere near human. The primal hunger in his eyes awakens feelings in her that defy calculation. As she shows him the way to step between worlds, he brands her with a pleasure that could last more than a lifetime . . .

Menage Romance
Wycked Trio by Wynne Roman
Series: Wycked Obsession (#4)

4.5 stars I am going to preface this with I am not a big fan of menage romances or those with MMF scenes.  So I guess you are wondering why I read this book?  It is because Wynne Roman is a one-click author for me.  This book ended up being  hot hot hot.  While the sex scenes are quite steamy, they are not over the top.

Repeat by Kylie Scott

5 stars This standalone novel is rather unique - it is a second chance story where the heroine has amnesia. She suddenly shows up in her ex-boyfriend's tattoo parlor trying to piece together her missing memories.  The two of them have undeniable chemistry and I enjoyed watching how everything unfolded.  This book was also full of secrets, betrayal, and suspense!

NA-College Romantic Suspense
Claiming Forever by Tara Gallina
Series: The Forever Series (#3)

4.5 Stars  Tara Gallina is not only a new author to me, but she is a new author in general.   It isn't often that an author's first book grabs me immediately, but with this series. . . Claiming Forever is the 3rd book and conclusion to Sebastian and Ainsley's story.  It is a romance suspense among two older college students.  It is well written, has great characters, and is relatively low on angst.  The books are not super long and all 3 books are now available.

Risking Forever (#1)

Daring Forever (#2)

Synopsis:

The final installment to the Forever Series—for now.

It happened. I knew it would. I fell for him. The revelation didn't rise within me like an orange sun emerging from the ocean. This wake-up call was more of a slap to the face. And now that it's out, the silence from Sebastian has me wondering if I've lost my hearing.
What did I expect, for him to love me back? He's made it clear since the beginning that can't happen. This is on me. Walking away would be the smart choice. I have dreams to follow, and a new life to start far away.
If only I could take Sebastian with me. If only I could convince him the risk is worth the reward. If he knew he could escape his father without harm, he'd go. Not just for me but for himself. He may not love me, but he cares. I wouldn't have given myself to him, if I had thought otherwise. ~ Ainsley

ABOUT THE SERIES
At twenty, Ainsley knows it’s time to follow her own dreams and not the future her that was planned for her—a future she never wanted. Losing her job couldn’t have come at a worse time.
Sebastian Gianni isn’t the ideal boss, but he has a position to fill and Ainsley is desperate. The sexy twenty-two-year-old comes from money, owns a successful business, and graduates from college in three months. He has his life together in a way Ainsley could only dream.
No wonder her best friend is obsessed with dating him. Even his ex-girlfriend is determined to get him back, although threatening him seems like the wrong approach. Ainsley would be a fool to fall for the guy, too.
By no means, should she trust him. He has more secrets than anyone she knows, which makes her wonder if the mafia rumors about him are true. It doesn’t matter that he’s a good listener, and sweet and protective at times. That playful flirty side he shares with her alone means nothing. Right?
When a kiss turns into a secret romance neither can give up, Ainsley learns the truth about Sebastian’s corrupt family and why his ex-girlfriend won’t go away. A future together is near impossible and comes with a risk that could get them both killed—or give them everything they’ve ever wanted.
