Review: CHERRY BEATS by Vicki James

CHERRY BEATS
Author: Vicki James
(Victoria L. James)
Genre: Rock Star Romance

Bon Jovi.
Bryan Adams.
Presley West.
My favourite men of music.
Only one of them within reach.

The night before Presley West was due to leave our small town of Hollings Hill, all of my high school fantasies came to life. He finally wanted me. Eight years I’d spent pining, and now I, bar-tending Tessa Lisbon, was going to make damn sure I made that night count before the music industry stole him.

Never screw your idols. That’s what they say, right? Well, I did, and I did it well. So well, I somehow managed to screw my own heart in the process.

He gave me one night to convince him to stay. In the end, I begged him to go.

Forever.

But that’s the thing about rock stars: they do what they want, when they want, and forever didn’t end up being as long as I expected.

Presley was back, and with his face, voice, and music now everywhere I turned, I officially had nowhere left to run.

This book positively slayed me and excuse me while I run off to devour all of this author’s other works.  Cherry Beats was recommended to me by a friend who loves books all rockstar related and I am ashamed to admit that this book has been sitting on my kindle for months.  Once I cracked open its pages, I was loathe to put it down because it is that good.  Presley and Tessa’s love story is raw, gritty, emotional, and epic - a story that I definitely plan to re-read in the near future as this author’s excellent storytelling and captivating characters enthralled me.

Presley is the gorgeous, force of nature drummer in the band Youth Gone Wild.  He is vibrant and oozes magnetism, but he is a bit broken too.  Not to mention, he has secrets. It is hard not to love Tessa’s character.  Tessa “ Cherry” is a hard core heroine full of sarcasm and sass. In a fantasy come to life, she experiences the reality of loving someone who is famous.  Their journey isn’t an easy one.  They both are flawed in their own unique ways, but together, they are exactly what each other needs. The gravitational pull between these two characters is undeniable and their intense connection and scorching chemistry is palpable.

Cherry Beats is a highly entertaining rock star romance that is sure to put you through the feels.  The story is engaging, flows well, and moves at a good pace.  Presley and Tessa/Cherry are likable and well developed and I enjoyed the dynamics between the other band members.  This is my first book by this author and I am definitely looking forward to reading more books by this author.
