RICH PRICK by Tijan: Book Review

Rich Prick, an all-new captivating, angst filled romance by New York Times bestselling author Tijan, is available now!

He walked into school on his first day and owned it.

I guess that’s what happens when you’re a prick, rich, and you’re best friends with the ruling school’s king.

Also didn’t hurt he’s drop dead gorgeous.

That’s all fine.

I mean, I have nothing to do with them.

I’m a loner, invisible, and that’s how I wanted it to be.

I was even proud of it, until I wasn’t.

Until I saw a girl kneel before him.

Until I couldn’t look away.

Until he caught me watching.

His name is Blaise Devroe. My name is Aspen Monson.

He only knew how to get, command, and demand attention.

I knew how to do everything but that.

And this is our story.

*Rich Prick is a full 100k standalone.

I don’t know how this author does it, but she never fails to craft a story that draws me in from the first page and lead me on a journey that elicits all of the feels.  These characters will speak to your heart and you will find yourself falling in love with Blaise and Aspen.  There were moments where I was in tears as well as moments full of hope, love, and romance.

The author is an expert when it comes to writing stories for the mature YA and NA audience.  In this book, Blaise and Aspen are multi-layered  characters and posses an inner strength to them that is admirable. That isn't to say that they don’t have flaws.  They do and that is what makes them so real. They each make mistakes, but they also show great growth and maturity was the book progresses.  The two are opposites with Aspen being a loner with an affinity for camping alone while Blaise is popular and frequently surrounded by people.  I found Aspen absolutely endearing with her social awkwardness and quirky personality. Her strength of character isn’t very obvious at first as she seems more emotionally fragile that this author’s usual heroines - this is not bad as I like that not all of her characters are the same. Like Aspen, Blaise has his own issues and family drama that have greatly shaped who he is today.  I had a more difficult time relating to him at the beginning of the book, but as  more of his past was revealed, I fell in love with him.   These two, for all of their differences are perhaps more similar deep down and are in fact, absolutely perfect for each other.  I really enjoyed watching how their relationship evolved as well as how they each grew individually as a character.

Blaise and Aspen both pulled at my heartstrings for all that they have endured and I admire their resilience.  If you have had the fortune of reading any of this author’s previous works, then you will understand when I say that you will be heartbroken and emotional, but you will also marvel at how she makes your heart whole again.  So yes, there will be tears, but you will also be in awe of the healing and happiness that occurs amongst these characters as well.

While you may read a lot of reviews that rave about seeing Nate from this author’s Fallen Crest High series, this book is a complete standalone.  Full confession: I have not yet read the entire FCH series (Gasp! I know and it is on my list.). Yet not once was I lost while reading this book.  In fact, it just made me that more curious about all of the secondary characters.  If you have read Crew Princess, then you will be thrilled to see some scenes with Bren and Cross.  Again, this book is a complete standalone.  I voluntarily reviewed an early version of this novel.
