Review: GRAVE by Shantel Tessier

Shantel Tessier

Genre: NA Dark Romance

Series: Dark Kings #2

My life went to hell years ago, and I've had a death wish since then with fast cars, women, and drugs. They don’t call me Grave for nothing!

But I do it because I need to feel something... anything. What’s life worth living for without the high?

And then I saw her!

She’s too good for me, and I should stay away. But like any addict, I switch one drug for another, and I’ll be taking her to hell with me.

I’m anything but sweet, despite what people think, so when he tells me I’m too good for him and I’m better off without him, I don't listen.

My life was simple before Grave stepped through that door, but who wants simple?

He makes me feel alive. It only took one touch, and I became addicted!

But therein lies the problem. Addiction is Grave’s middle name, and when he tells me he’s taking me to hell with him, I don’t know whether to take that as a threat or a promise!

Grave is another fantastic installment to this author’s Dark King series.  This is a book that will pull you in right from the first page and keep you enthralled until the very end due to this author’s remarkable story telling and enthralling, well-developed characters.  I love a good dark romance and this author never disappoints as she takes us into the dark underbelly of Las Vegas and the Dark Kings’ Kingdom.

In the beginning of the book, it was clear that Grave was spiraling out of control with his series of additions.  He was, essentially, on the road to earning his nickname of “digging himself into an early grave”.  I completely fell in love with this troubled bad boy because underneath all of the adrenaline-seeking behaviors lies a man with a huge heart and a man who is lost.  The way the author develops his character is spot on in making the reader feel his raw emotions and also with his growth throughout the book.

April is the type of girl that I would love to have in my corner and she is everything that I look for in a heroine.  As a strong female protagonist, I loved her spunk as well as her compassionate nature.  She is assertive when she needs to be and also has this calming presence for Grave.

These two together are dynamite.  They bring out the best in each other, but their relationship is not an easy one. They have an instant attraction  and their chemistry is off the charts, but will these two overcome all the obstacles in their way?

This book is emotional, raw, and gritty.  Your heart strings will be pulled as this author illustrates the real struggles that addicts endure as well as how it affects those around them.  I really enjoyed watching April and Grave’s relationship unfold as these two captured my heart.  The presence of the rest of the Kings Titan, Cross, and Bones really added to the story and I was pleased to see all the different roles that they played.

Grave is book 2 in this author’s Dark King series.  It can be read as a standalone, but this series is so amazing that I recommend Titan’s novel as well.  Overall, if you are a lover of dark romance with complex characters and story that will make you feel then you will definitely want to check out Grave.

I voluntarily read an early version of this book.  All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.
