Smoke Carelli lived by his own rules.
He wasn't interested in normal.
He didn't care about things like love and commitment, damn sure not marriage and forever.
But the second Maggie Ramirez parked outside his family’s restaurant, his life became a series of distractions he was learning to love. Maggie and her kid have shaken up his world and dislodged every hard and fast rule he’d ever made.
And when the demons from her past resurface, Smoke and Maggie may have to break more than their own rules to win their freedom.
But will it cost them everything and everyone they love?

Smoke is an excellent start to this author’s new Carelli Family Saga series! It is a quick and enchanting read that captured my attention immediately and left me fully entertained until the end. This book has a bit of everything with likable characters, swoon-worthy moments, heat, and action.
Smoke is just delectable with a commanding presence, but also with a huge capacity to love and a protective nature. I found him positively endearing. Maggie is also a likable heroine with a big heart, but she is also cautious. Her backstory is heartbreaking but the author beautifully highlights the inner strength that she possesses. The connection between these two is palpable, however there are potential road blocks in their way.
I loved how the author portrayed the family dynamics and the various roles that they played in the story. They offered moments of levity, a sense of love & support, but also with enough intrigue to want to know more about each of them. Smoke is a standalone novel with no cliffhanger, but the author does set up some plot points for the next character’s novel in the series. Overall, I really enjoyed this read with it’s interesting storyline and likable characters. I am definitely looking forward to the next book in the series.
